Long time, no talk, dear readers! I hope my absence hasn't doomed you to suffer through the likes of "Men In Black III" or reruns of "2 Broke Girls". To be fair, my 3 week isolation left me with no entertainment beyond "Baby Boy" and early 2000's hip-hop. If someone plays Usher's "My Boo" one more time, they earn a cozy spot on the top of my blacklist. So, here's what you may have missed.
Movies
See It: Prometheus
See my review for more information of Ridley Scott's latest sci-fi saga. Barrels of fun, and an insanely well-crafted blockbuster to boot.
See It: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
I have a thing for geriatric humor. Things are way funnier and cuter when coming from a sassy old lady. Set in exotic India, this breezy dramedy is as hilarious as it is touching. Starring every famous Brit over 70, it's a good one to see with Mom.
Skip It: Snow White and the Huntsmen
Don't be fooled by the solid advertisements, there's not much to see here.
Music
Regina Spektor, What We Saw From The Cheap Seats
Ditching the more mainstream approach of "Far", Reg is back to making quirky indie-pop in a darling new release.
The Tallest Man on Earth, There's No Leaving Now
Kristian Matsson, essentially the modern day Bob Dylan, switches up his usually stripped down folk music, adding the soft effect of a full band to great success (unlike Dylan's unpopular switch to electric). It's a fresh folk album perfect for those hazy summer days.
River City Extension, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Your Anger
My favorite up-and-comers follow up their masterpiece "...And The Unmistakable Man" with their unique brand of arena emo folk-rock. it's moving, grandiose, and driving. Catch them before they blow up! For fans of Brand New, Mumford & Sons, and The Avett Brothers.
Books
READ Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
I know I'm super late on the Sedaris bandwagon, but his recognition is well-deserved. His rants are both insightful and hilarious, honed in with his unique voice. A quick and entertaining collection of essays.
READ Stories I Only Tell My Friends by Rob Lowe
As a lover of all things Lowe I had to check out his autobiography. Sharing few personal details, he talks about his experience in the industry throughout an illustrious career. A fascinating and entertaining insight into the film industry.
SKIP 50 Shades of Grey by E. L. James
The latest hyped-up series may be a worse offender than "Twilight". Originating as fan-fiction from "Twilight" fan boards, this pornographic romance novel is absolutely deplorable. The unintelligable writing is often cringe-inducing.
